…one flew east, one flew west…

…One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest

Just finished reading this book (penned by Ken Kesey). And i have to say i have never read anything like it. It packs in a whammy, a punch to the guts etc etc. I can use a lot more hackneyed terms, but i still can’t exactly describe the effect its had on me. It is a story of a mental ward, its inmates and the world (which for them is restricted to the ward and the hospital), as seen through their eyes. It makes you realise there is so much we take for granted, seeking comfort in its very normality, and how it all appears to those with ‘different abilities’. How, in their opinion, they don’t think of themselves as lunatics. They just perceive things differently from how ‘normal and sane’ people do, which categorizes them immediately as crazies and loonies. And how, at the end of it, they do not worry about the conventional societal norms of black and white, and do just what they feel is right.

A book highly recommended by me. Go ahead and read it, it makes you step beyond your normal boundaries of thinking.

And again..

Having written the previous post, I just have to present this argument against excessive verbosity :

Words are like leaves; And where they most abound
Much fruit of sense beneath is rarely found.

Pithy and precise, ain’t it?

It’s only words…

A bonnie blue sky. Fresh-washed and clean; so bright it’s sparkling. Great big caravans of white fluffy clouds scudding across it, making their own path, and leaving little wisps behind them as if to mark their return route. Clouds so obliging, they readily fit themselves into whatever mold is cast [up] to them, so that observers discern only the shape they want.
The sun shining cheerily out from one corner of this blue-and-white chequered expanse, playfully indulging in the occasional game of hide-and-seek with the wee cloudies. Tall and majestic trees clad in a thick green raiment, turning their  mighty limbs skywards as if to capture a piece of it for themselves.

And now compare your mental projection of the above to these.
Aren’t words just super?

A funny Caption

If you can think of it, we can probably do it!

A caption I saw on the side of a truck today morning. Missed the name of the company; it was Mark’s something & something. ‘Twas laughably ridiculous. The creative minds at Mark’s had probably gone overboard in their zeal to pen a catchy phrase for themselves. And not wanting to aim for the stars and fall short (probably in their own esteem as well as their customers’), had ended up saying they could ‘probably do it!’
Either that, or knowing the high level of consumer-rights awareness in this country, had left themselves a nice legal loophole!
