Indian cricket is like an Ekta Kapoor serial – the cast keeps changing; and it ’s still at the stage it was when you gave up watching it several years ago.

Just noticed

Humanity, and its progress on the earth, has been marked by ages, you know – Iron, Ice, Bronze….

Our age (specifically, in Mumbai, and maybe to a certain extent in India) can be called the Renaming age. A close second comes , the flyover-ization age.

What are their stories?

October 4, 2009 alice-in-wonder 6 comments

~ The little girl of about 5 at the bus stop, writing away with intense concentration on a diary which must belong to her father sitting nearby. After all, no one so tiny could possibly own a diary so large.

~ A lady waiting for a bus, redefining fashion. Saree-clad, she had a bulging cloth bag perched neatly and symmetrically on her head. For all the world, it looked like a jaunty and successful, if unorthodox, hat.

~ There is a section under a flyover, which I usually cross over on my way home. There is always a homeless vagrant there, who has claimed that place as his own. Yesterday, I found him sweeping every inch of his turf, cleaning out every piece of trash thrown by the passersby, and collecting it all at a point outside ‘his’ section before lying down to sleep. Dignity of the homeless? A job as a sweeper in some lifetime? Fastidious habits even when thrown on the road?

I wonder..

From my observation ~
10 odd readers, out of which,
4 regular ones (Thank you folks! :) )

Boring stats over, now for some fun. Written by SEV. Yes you can throw the brickbats at him for all the crap you read on my blog; he made me start blogging. :P

For the longest time, if I have needed something really random, who do I check out? Alice. Random drops of water? Check. Random pointless observations about life? Check. Random conversations? Check. Hell, one of my more random fantasies happened over IM with her. To my memory that one actually started because I wanted to say that the joke was so bad I died laughing about it. And ended up exploring the outer confines of losing corporeal form. Ah well.

This is not to say that she is completely off-her-rocker. I would say that she is only slightly so. It takes some lack of being off-your-rocker to be able to note down the more smart ideas. I would link to the correct category here too, but dear darling Alice does not believe in categories, only in WordPress.com tags which are non-specific to her blog.

I’m not really sure what her anniversary post should be like. Aping her randomness is a little hard, and talking about the way we met, and talked, and chatted, and so on and forth seems a little… clichéd. Blabbity-blah, it’s been _ years, blah-blah-amazing-fun, first-meeting-blah-blah-moon-launch, blah-no-contact, invasion-blah-Elvis is back-etc, yes-minister-blah-British-humor-blah, and so on and forth.

That passage may actually be partially true too. Did that seem convincing?

Dammit, I just found the tag for her specific concoctions. And that para was illustrating my point so well too.

Some more pointers

There is a profound silence. It doesn’t mean anything more or less than that are veritable dams waiting to be breached. A 101 thoughts rush through, some as random as …

1) why do some people have more restrictions on their blogs, which totally restrict a person’s ability to comment? And then i have seen some bloggers go out and post/crib about lurkers not leaving comments. They should make it easier, y’know.

2) Shouldn’t Bollywood be renamed to Punjukhet? It shows hardly much else these days!

3) Some people display their niece/nephews’ pics on orkut/gtalk/as a status message. While I am sure they don’t care what anyone else might think, I find it very weird that they flaunt this to such an extent they have nothing else out there. It’s surely a very personal thing, and if they love this, I am no one to comment. But, I find it very odd, not the least ‘coz, you know, where are they going to put their own kids pics when they have some?

4) Why is nice = boring? It’s an association most people including me, make.

5) An innocent typo in some code I saw – SingingResponse instead SigningResponse. Made me imagine some services which gave their responses as warblings and flutings instead of staid code or fields.

6) Indian television is so boring these days. I know it’s been that way for a long time now.. but… DD completed ‘50 Golden Years’ recently. I wish they at least would go back to what they used to show when we were kids. :(

7) The WP editor now shows up grammatical corrections while writing. It really shows me, more than anything else, how long it has been since I posted!

It rained that night

September 12, 2009 alice-in-wonder 5 comments

The mystery of the mysteriously appearing water in our living room (if you want to read that post, go search – I am feeling too lazy to link up! A few useful keywords are spooked, osmosis, and Spain. There, that makes it sound a lot more interesting. :D ) has been solved. And the theory propounded by the ladies Raysh and DewD-ette of it being Ghosts holds no substance. Chronologically speaking, this post also ought to have been posted sometime in August, but, laziness works in strange ways again.

So, it was a dark and scary night and the roomie and I were sitting in our semi-lit room, busily surfing away. Heh. Couldn’t resist that. Anyway, we were both surfing away on our respective laptops, when there was a sudden noise of something pitter-pattering in the room. This went on to become some major Pitter-Pattering. We both looked around and then saw some water (I lie, it was more like a lot of water) accumulating on the floor. Then, we noticed it was gently cascading down from the ceiling.

After our hearts returned to their respective positions, we went upstairs and knocked. Turns out, someone had just taken a nice long wallow in the bath-tub (or what my roomie calls ‘the mandakini-snan’ :D ), pulled the plug, and the water like an obedient child listening to its mum, followed the law of gravity.

Since, that’s all there was to it, we just asked those guys not to use that bathroom (I really hope they had another! ), and called up the leasing agency. I hope they have had it repaired by now, or the next unsuspecting tenants will have to re-solve this mystery for themselves.
