Cricket has, over the last few days, taken over everything else in a bloodless coup. It started, innocuously enough, from the sports page in the newspaper and expanded until it now occupies more than 50 % of the paper and the first page. It has taken over more than 80 % of the television content, and 99.9 % of any conversations, especially those at the workplace. Similar must be the statistics in all other media. Apparently people are even colouring their hair for solidarity with their teams, though I must say, they will look like priceless chumps when their teams lose.

So the majority of India will now eat, drink and live cricket for a long time. The rest of us, I suppose, must starve.
